Final Thoughts Phantasmal Flames has burst on to the scene as an absolute powerhouse set, albeit a smaller one, to kick off a run of hyped sets in this era
I have yet to need to cast it for zero mana, but I do love having that option so you can safely tap out to play something cool but still have some protection from some crazy artifact or enchantment combo
It's nice to have, building out a certain set's lore/story or including a fun little reference, but it's not wholly necessary to the function of the card
The Land card is also Traditional Foil in 20% of boosters and a special card from Magics history can be found in 20% of packs
You can build Turboland decks that feel like Storm, both in play patterns and in how narrow their cards are, or you can have the usual ramp payoffs attained through actual land count rather than mana rocks or creatures (suggesting a land subtheme grafted into a 'normal' deck)
* The set introduces new mechanics including battle cry and living weapon
